Christmas Cat Ecard from Artist Louise Max

Louise Max in her studio
Pamela asked Louise Max to tell us how she got started with her wonderful dog and cat images.

Louise replied:    "In 1997, I had taken out an advertisement page in a national directory of illustration, which showcased a few pieces of my art. The directory is used by art directors and publishers who are seeking specific art images for specific projects.
Swinging Christmas Cat Ecard
I was quite pleased to be contacted by the editor at Gibbs Smith Publishing. They wanted me to illustrate two books written by Mr. Ray Bradbury, who is quite renowned for his science fiction stories. The interesting part was that Mr. Bradbury loves animals and had written two short prose pieces, one about dogs ("Dogs Think Every Day is Christmas") and one about cats ("With Cat for Comforter").

"I was very honored to work closely with Mr. Bradbury, who proved to be very easy going and helpful. Originally we were going to create a more standard and traditional look for these books. I was not quite satisfied with the images, and in thinking about the nature of dogs, I realized that dogs have much in common with two year old children! They are rambunctious, enthusiastic, and joyful. So I submitted some new sketches reflecting these qualities, and Ray loved them. He commented that I have "an unusual mind" - which, coming from a great science fiction author, I considered to be a great compliment. (and possibly a little scary!)

"Both books were published, and Ray signed two copies for me. It was a wonderful experience, and since then my whimsical dog and cat images have appeared on greeting cards, T shirts and a published journal."

We look forward to more delightful Louise Max ecards.  Visit us at  www.pamelagladding.com  to view more of Louise Max's delightful greeting cards
